First Dog Training Class - Without the Dog?!?

Let's talk about driver's training for a moment. Imagine if your first experience behind the wheel plunked you on the 401 at rushhour. Since it's your first experience, you don't necessarily know all of the important rules of the road.

You're thrust into an overwhelming situation and likely, the other drivers on the 401 are not going to go easy on you because it's your first day. Imagine the chaos and frustration you'd feel. Pretty easy to assume it would be a difficult way to learn to drive, right?

Now imagine learning to ride a horse. You show up at the barn with no previous knowledge and are presented with your horse. A green, wild pony who's never learned to accept a saddle and bridle. In the field next door, there's a mannerly, well-schooled horse who's steady and solid, but you don't get to ride that horse. It's your first time trying, so you get the wild child. Do you think it's fair to say that you wouldn't be too excited about the prospect?

When you first learn to drive, you learn in class. There's a lot to the art of learning to drive, so it gets split up into manageable chunks. You learn the rules of the road first before you learn how to operate the vehicle. When you learn to ride a horse, you are put on the Steady-Eddie horse so you only have to concentrate on yourself and learning to feel comfortable in this new endeavor.

So, guess what we do in our dog training program? You got it! The first lesson of our Grade 1 class is always without the dog! Sometimes, this makes people laugh. Sometimes, they question. Sometimes, they are reluctant at first, but they usually understand completely by the end of the night!

We want a chance to teach YOU, our human student first! We want you to learn a few of the more important things you'll need to know about the journey you're about to embark on (HA! Pun totally intended). We'll start by engaging you, first through entertainment, where we sneak in some valuable tidbits about the process of training dogs. We'll share details about proper timing and how important it is. We need you to understand a little bit about how dog's learn and set your expectations high! Once we have your attention and we know you're intrigued, we'll teach you the first lesson of your program. You'll get to observe astutely, rather than being distracted by your cute and excited dog who, no doubt, wants to play with his new friend next door. You'll get a clear idea of what you have to learn and then in turn, you'll go home and spend a few days working with your pup before coming into the excitement of the training environment.

Here's a little taste of Lesson #1 for you. This was filmed April 2017 and it was broadcast live to our YouTube audience. This is the part of the night where we grab your attention and show you how high you should set your expectations. In addition, we love playing with our dogs and we LOVE getting our you excited about a bright future with your own!

Next we bring out the puppies! Did I get your attention? ;o) If we don't have any puppies ourselves, we borrow them! Now we want to showcase the skills you are going to teach, so we do it with untrained puppies so that you can see where to start with your work at home.

You are always welcome at Lesson #1. Check out Grade 1 class schedules for the next date! We promise, you'll love it - just remember, don't bring your dog! We need to train you first!!! ;o)

As always, Happy Training!
